The Life and Times of 'James P. Erickson'

God is in the Rain

I just realized I haven’t written anything on my blog in a very long time, like a VERY long time.  Longer than the Great Wall of China, longer than Navy Pier, longer than this joke needs to be…moving on.  A quick overview of my life would look like this.

  • I graduate in May
  • I’ll be raising support this summer for Interning with CRU
  • I’ll be taking summer classes in Iowa
  • I have 7 weddings to attend, none of which mine (yet)
  • I’ll be making a lot of short films
  • I’ll be in spending time with my family
  • I might buy a limo, more info on that later

I can’t believe my 4 years at Iowa are coming to close.  It’s safe to say I’m more busy this last semester of college then I have been every other one so far.  If I could just play frisbee all day I would, trust me.  By the last couple weeks of school I replace all books and notebooks with frisbees and more frisbees.

My bike got stolen on Tuesday.  I was bummed, but I mean I guess that stuff happens.  I locked it up outside of class and when I returned 2 hours later it was gone.  I filed the report and began making my way to my next class on foot.  Of course every blue bike I saw looked like mine.  I actually chased one guy down just to make sure it wasn’t my bike…it wasn’t.  On Wednesday I was driving past the library and thought I spotted my bike parked right out front.  IT WAS!!!  Someone had rode it here and just left it sitting in front of the library.  I couldn’t believe it.  My plan was to hide in the shadows waiting for the thief to return to my bike, then pounce on him unleashing a barrage of furious blows.  (side note)  This week in Bible Study, Steve and I lead the guys through how we channel our anger…(awk)  Suddenly I realized just having my bike back was good enough, I jumped on and began to ride away.  All of a sudden a voice from behind me calls out, “Hey that’s my bike.  He’s stealing my bike!”  Needless to say a 14 boy tried claiming that he found my bike in the garbage the day before.  He believed the ‘finders keepers’ rules applied in this situation.  I believed in my police report.  He left after a few minutes of arguing.

I’ll be leaving for Minneapolis in just a few minutes for the ‘Kingdom Called Conference’  This conference is to help me learn how to raise support with a right heart…and also shove needless papers down my throat.  JK JK.  I’m excited to be using my passion for film to help create new media with Campus Crusade.  Understand how sad I am to be leaving Iowa though…I’m leaving behind some of my best friends I’ve ever had.  I won’t start naming people off here, but you all know who you are.  My only regret leaving Iowa are the friends I won’t be able to grow closer too.  My life has always been driven relationally through others.  I can count my largest asset in this world as my friends, that’s 100% truth.  I love you all.

Well we’re already in the car driving to Minneapolis right now and I’m the first to drive.  Don’t worry I’m just typing with one hand while the other stays planted on the wheel.  ;-)  Oh one more thing, I’m growing my beard out till the end of the semester.  I’m really excited for this endeavor…won’t you join me?
